Notebook kept while commander of the company of foreign residents organized to support Agustín V. Zamorano in the defense of Monterey against Echeandía. Contains copies of orders by Zamorano, José Antonio Solorzano, Juan Bautista Bonifacio, and Hartnell, relating to guard duty, passwords, prohibtion of liquor and gambling, dismissal of Edward Watson, Hartnell's resignation and other military matters. Some entries in the handwriting of Juan Buatista Bonifacio, in command during Hartnell's absence.

Ezekial Thatcher was clerk of the Parkville School District, Shasta County, Calif. He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area. He is descended from the Thatchers of Uffington, England, the same family as Denis Thatcher, husband of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. From the description of H.H.
